The Loita Forest Elephant Conservation

Ereto Africa NGO has been working on conservation of both Flora and Fauna in Loita Forest ecosystem; a pristine community-owned forest. We started in 2018 to address a persistent human-elephant conflict problem by use of beehive fences along the boundary between Loita forest and Ilkimpa village. We targeted renown routes to villages and crop fields; the outcome has been magical!. Since then, the elephant invasion has dropped by 76% courtesy of the beehive fence. The project intends to expand to fourteen other villages neighboring the Loita Forest.

We are also preparing future generations to understand and better manage their wildlife and particularly elephants through our “Environmental Education Awareness Program” in local schools around Loita Forest.
